Among the options for visiting and surfing the unofficial surfing capital of Europe is Ericeira Surf House. The idyllic fishing village of Ericeira has become one of the world’s top surf destinations, with Ericeira Surf house providing a boutique, cozy bed & breakfast option for those looking to surf a number of the best waves in Portugal.

Part of the allure to Ericeira is the high number of quality surf breaks within a relatively small area. This is one of the main reasons Ericeira was designated as the first World Surfing Reserve in Europe in 2011. Within walking distance from Ericeira Surf House is Praia do Sul and Foz do Lizandro. These two sandy beach breaks are ideal for novice and beginner surfers, while also providing fun waves for all levels of surfers. Beyond that surfers can choose from over 15 high-quality surf breaks along 15 miles of coastline that runs along Ericeira. Standouts include the consistent breaks of Ribeira d’Ilhas or Matadouro. For advanced and expert surfers, options include Crazy Left, Pedra Branca, Backdoor, Reef, and the heavy barrels at Coxos.

Ericeira Surf House is also within walking distance of the center of town. It’s a destination more suitable for the mature surfer, families, or themed retreats such as yoga retreats, business retreats, weddings, or family reunions. Children under 18 are not allowed without parents, which keeps it from feeling like a party-laden surf camp. Ericeira Surf House has views of both the ocean and beautiful countryside. The grounds include a large swimming pool with a bar, as well as a garden and lots of open space to relax or practice yoga. Accommodation options include shared rooms, double rooms, and family rooms, with wi-fi available throughout. The Ericeira Surf House is tastefully decorated and includes high-quality bed linens and towels.

Being a bed & breakfast, breakfast is included daily during your stay. You can also upgrade your package to include things such as dinner nights, which take place three times a week, surfing lessons with coaching and video analysis, surfboard rentals, airport transfer, bike rentals, and more. Any of those items can also be purchased or rented a la carte so you have the option of doing it that way. A fully loaded communal kitchen is available and there’s a grocery store located just down the street. Beer, wine, and other drinks are available at the bar by the pool, along with other snacks. Ericeira Surf House also offers catering for those who have special diet needs or requests. Kids up to 4 stay free, with a 50% discount off all of their meals.

Ericeira Surf House closes in the winter, which is considered November through March. Wetsuits are generally required year rounds. There are always waves to be found as this region of Portugal has some of the most consistent surf in all of Europe.

When you’re not surfing you can take a stroll through the lovely town of Ericeira. Yoga classes are available through the resort, as are massages and bike rentals. There’s a nanny service for those looking to leave the kiddos behind for an adventure. Stand-up paddleboarding is another option and rentals and tours can be arranged through Ericeira Surf House.

Flights are made into the Lisbon Portela Airport. From there is’s just a 35-minute drive to Ericeira Surf House, and they can arrange airport transfers for a fee. It can also be reached by public transportation or taxis.
