Puro Surf Hotel & Performance Academy

Located in the colorful beach town of El Zonte, La Libertad in El Salvador, Puro Surf Hotel & Performance Academy is a surf resort that goes all out when it comes to learning and improving your surfing.

The resort sits on the cliffs overlooking the dreamy right-hand point break also called El Zonte. The Puro Surf hotel consists of thatch palapas and 15 rooms with ocean views and a variety of sleeping options. Private rooms, double and triple rooms, as well as dorms, are all options to choose from. Amenities include wi-fi, air conditioning, smart TVs, and high-quality beds and bedding. Breakfast is included with nightly stays. Puro Surf also offers a variety of all-inclusive packages, including their Yoga package, Surf Trip package, and Just Chill package.

The area surrounding El Zonte offers a variety of world-class El Salvador surf spots to choose from. Puro Surf has coupled that with a surf school, or Performance Academy, that is said to be amongst the best place to learn and improve your surfing in Central America. Led and designed by Puro Surf founder, and International Surfing Association certified instructor. Marcello Castellanos, the Puro Surf program is centered around four pillars of Body, Technique, Tactics, and Psychology of surfing. Castellanos has designed a methodical, in-depth course that walks surfers through each step and technique, with the program receiving rave reviews from past students and guests. This includes out-of-water training sessions, review sessions, and in-water sessions. Board and gear rental, video and photo sessions, a gym for physical training, and even an ice bath are all on offer at Puro Surf.

A major component of the Puro Surf Academy is combining its surf school and training program with healthy, nutritious meal options. The on-site Covana Kitchen provides meals using healthy, fresh ingredients. Many of the fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish are sourced from local El Salvadorian producers. The menu combines a variety of meal options ranging from international cuisine to local, typical fare. The idea is to give their guest a healthy taste of EL Salvador while also supporting the local economy. Dining takes place in open-air thatched palapas that double as rain catchment systems for the gardens at Puro Surf.

When not in the water working on your surfing, Puro Surf offers a variety of pools as well as a concrete skate park for any skaters that visit. Yoga classes are also offered, as are Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. Massages are on offer to soothe the body after all of the physical activity.

There are a variety of non-surfing activities to choose from including tours to the Tamanique Waterfalls and Ilamatepeque Volcano.

One unique aspect of the Puro Surf Hotel & Performance Academy is its Waves of Help program. This is a philanthropic endeavor aimed at helping local communities grow and develop in a sustainable, healthy, and profitable manner.

Flights can be made to El Salvador International Airport. From there it’s just under an hour’s drive from San Salvador. Travel arrangements can be made through the surf resort.
